Before you start preparing your outfit, the enclosure that you are going to be in when you attend will have its own rules when it comes to dress codes, so you need to make sure you are aware of what they are so you can go in.
The Queen Anne enclosure has the strictest dress code outside of the Royal enclosure (which is members only). Formal daywear is required for ladies, either a dress of a trouser suit. Dresses or skirts should be below the knee or longer and trousers on suits should be full length. If you wear a dress with shoulder straps, they must be at least an inch in thickness and strapless and halter neck styles are not allowed. You must wear a hat or a fascinator.
Men must wear a full-length suit with a collared shirt and tie – cravats and bow ties are not permitted.
If you are going to be in the village enclosure for ladies, the dress code has similar requirements as the Queen Anne enclosure. However, because much of the enclosure is on the grass, opting for wedges or heels that are thicker will be much more practical and comfortable.
The Windsor Enclosure has the most relaxed approach, with no official dress code. However, smart clothing is strongly encouraged, and visitors should avoid overly casual attire such as sportswear or ripped jeans. Fancy dress is not permitted in any of the enclosures.
